Pickering Town Football Club - Northern Counties East League A front page picture with a bit of a difference this week! The photo is taken from inside the stand at the Recreation Ground, off Mill Lane, home of Pickering Town Football Club, members of the Northern Counties East League. However there's more to this picture than first meets the eye! Whilst watching the action our chief photographer Gary noticed something else that was happening in the ground. He recalls: ' Throughout the game there were a pair of swifts flying at fantastic speed across the pitch and in and out of the stand where there was a nest with four babies in it. It was very difficult to get good photos due to the speed that they came in and out and the fact that I was trying to watch the game!' If you look closely at the top right hand corner of the image you can see the swift approaching it's nest. For the record the Pikes won this FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round game 4-1 (v Liversedge, played on Sunday 17 August 2008). Photo: Gary Spooner (FGIF/RSPB contributor) |
