Westminster School - ISFA

Schools football is the subject for our front page photo this week. The image above was taken at the Westminster School playing fields in Vincent Square London. The grounds are about 500 yards South East of Victoria station (the nearest rail link) and the site is very close to the Houses of Parliament.

On his visit there last year chief FGIF correspondent Paul writes: 'this was the nearest to the centre of the capital that I've ever watched a football match and I cannot think of anywhere that indeed could be more central...the main focus is the old pavilion with picture postcard picket-fence surrounding it; step inside and feel the history that now engulfs you. In fact the Public School has a real claim to fame in the annals of football folklore, being that themselves and Charterhouse were the first two teams to play an inter-school match, back in 1863'.

Westminster won this ISFA Boodles Cup Round 3 game 1-0 (v Kimbolton, played on Thursday 15 November 2007).

The ISFA has an excellent website which is regularly updated. Travellers can check out the latest news, results, fixtures, match photos, details of venues by logging on to the following address: http://www.isfa.org.uk/about/index.php and then selecting the appropriate links. This season's Boys U18 Boodles Cup competition has now reached the second round stage. If you get the chance give it a try!!
