Monday 27 April - Programme News re AFC Hatfield Town: Bob Davies - adds: 'This evening (21/04) I visited AFC Hatfield Town versus Allensbury's Sports in the Herts Senior County League Division One. This new Hatfield are in their first season playing at the Birchfield Playing Fields in Hatfield. The pitch is fully post and railed and was formally used by Hatfield Town during their time in the Herts Senior County League. I was pleasantly surprised when enquiring if a programme was being issued to be told yes. A splendid effort (*see above) for midweek was purchased for £1.50 and a very welcome addition to this seasons collection.

If anybody wants to go along to either of the two remaining home game against St Peters on Saturday the 2nd of May, or Chipperfield Corinthians on Tuesday the 5th of May, a programme will available for both games.

Friday 17 April - New Floodlit Ground: Brian Buck - Wisbech St Mary, who currently play in the Cambs BIS League Division 1B now have floodlights. They look set to win this division. If so they will play in the Kershaw League Senior B Division next season.

Friday 17 April - Ashby Ivanhoe FC: Andy Gallon - following his recent visit to AIFC (see TT No.208) Andy writes:

'... as you know, I was at Ashby Ivanhoe FC on Tuesday night. I noted their impressive website has a section for groundhoppers to submit reports etc from their visits to Hood Park. I forwarded my FGIF report - and have received this reply (shown below) from the club's chairman. It makes very interesting reading, and may be worth carrying on the FGIF news section. I see he plans to use the FGIF stuff in the programme for the April 25th game. More good publicity for FGIF!'

Thank you so much for visiting our ground on Tuesday evening and for the subsequent notes that you have kindly produced.

Firstly apologies for the lack of programme. As a club we are one of the only teams in the Leicestershire Senior League that produce a programme and it was my decision along with the printers to not produce one for this game owing to the long break the printers had over Easter and also the timescale of putting the information together for what is a great programme for this level. However that is not an axcuse but merely a logistical decision but you are quite right with your comments.

We are an ambitious football club and I would like to update you on a few thaings that have been happening over the last season to signify this.

Firstly, our ground - as you recognised is a facility that cannot allow us to gain promotion. This is for many reasons but the main hurdle is the lack of foresight from our local Town Council who state that there remains a covenant from the land owner in 1927 that the Town Council must keep the space open for public use! I guess that is the reason why they allowed the Leisure Centre to be built on exactly the same "open space" - politics hey? We had plans drew up professionally and sought planning advice on the required ground grading requirements and all seemed positive feedback.

When I joined the football club just over 2 seasons ago I produced a 3 year plan which highlighted exactly what we needed to do to move the football club forward from a fairly dormant club into one which tapped into and recognised the benefits of the size of the town for all sorts of reasons let alone football, commercially and people through the turbstiles.

It is still our ambition to progress into the MFA (step 5). In order to do this we have been working hard to re-locate the club rather than waste energy with the local council that would rather see "youths" conregating with bottles of cider and smoking whatever they do than support a community football club that could, if the council oepned their eyes, play a huge part in the above problems of youth culture today!

This season I have grown the football club from 3 senior teams to 13 by taking over the David Hunt Soccer Scool FC teams from under 8's to under 16's. This move have opened up new ground options and funding from the Football Foundation as I am sure you are aware?

The club is stronger than ever off the field and we operate with a strong Management Team (as you will see from our website). These managers play an important part in how the club operates and progresses and we are very active with our commercial and community responsibilities.

I agree with your point that lower league clubs often "harp on" about lack of funds. As a club we have a professional marketing prospectus that we present to potential sponsors and if you would like a copy I will gladly send you one in the post.

Most football clubs play at the off the field responsbilities and this is evident in the game in general as they some how lose their "business acumen" - the structure of a club off the field is something that should been see by the FA as important to the players on the field as this is where sustainability comes from, but sadly it is not viewed in this way.

Hopefully we can gain promotion this season and if offered we will move to a temporary ground for 1 season whilst we get on with our relocation to our new ground where we can operate all of our teams from and run a great community football club.

Wednesday 15 April - Middlesex County League Hop Update: Tony Incenzo - 'A reminder that the fifth match in the Middlesex League's series of Saturday morning kick-offs has been confirmed as Copland versus Sloane on April 18th at 11am.

The venue is Stonebridge Ground, Hillside, London NW10 8LW. This is close to Stonebridge Park and Harlesden underground stations.

Wednesday 15 April - Groundhopping Request: Richard Green - '... I need your assistance - there is a charity match this Sunday, April 19, a fundraiser for a young baby who through oxygen starvation at birth has been left with damage to all areas of the brain and who will need permanent care for the rest of his life.

The Friends of Alfie Johnson X1 (largely made up of players from Telford Town past and present) are playing Sutton Coldfield Town at the latters ground with all funds from the gate and bar etc going to the cause.

Can you give this information out to the groundhoppers please - we are doing all we can to boost the attendance. Admission is £3.

The ground is on Coles Lane, Sutton Coldfield. The kick off is 2.30 - part of the day will include members of the crowd taking penalties against the club keepers - £1 for kids £2 for adults. Local press are supporting and will be attending on the day.

There is a bar, food and bouncy castle. I would appreciate any publicity you can give this worthy cause.

Wednesday 15 April - AFC Dunstable Update: Gyles Basey-Fisher - 'AFC Dunstable have played their last first team game at Lancot Park. I visited for the Bank Holiday fixture against Old Bradwell, which ended in a 2-0 home win in front of a crowd of 35 (counted). Due to their promotion they will be playing at Dunstable Town next season, but their reserve side will still play at Lancot Park. With the forthcoming ground improvements to Creasey Park it seems certain that AFC Dunstable see their future long term there'.

Wednesday 8 April - Miles Per Gallon No.23: Andy Gallon - after a short break Andy's back with more topical and thought-povoking debate! It's that time of year again! With only a few weeks to go before the season ends, Andy takes time out to reflect on his travels during 2008-2009. He looks back at some of the new grounds, leagues and games that have featured on his hopping list during the campaign...is amazed at the lengths some travellers go to for their footy fix...and expresses concern that some of the higher paid players seem to be bringing the game into disrepute at an alarmingly increasing rate. But Andy won't be losing too much sleep about that as he dreams about a trip to Ireland and a chance to watch some eircom League football over the Summer! Not to be missed!

Tuesday 7 April - Derby Summer League: John Brailsford - writes: 'Hi everyone, the Summer Football League kicked-off on Saturday evening with the Challenge Cup. This competition is between the League Champions and the League Cup winners with a complicated order of precedence if both those clubs are the same. This is further complicated by the fact that the holder retains the trophy until they are defeated. Fortunately this year the holders Bradley were also League Champions so they played League Cup winners, Coach Rangers. After an exciting match ending in a 3-3 draw Bradley retain the Cup until next season.

A minute’s silence wad held before the match in memory of Mr John Woolliscroft who died very suddenly on Friday. John had played for Cubley before the war and had been involved with the Summer Football League ever since, having twice held the office of Chairman and being a very active member of the Summer Football League Council for 36 years. I will miss him greatly.

I have attached the fixtures for the next two league matches with the first being this Thursday. We are down a team this year as FC Hulland have dropped out due I think to the lack of anyone to run them. You may think that we have gained and lost other teams from the club list but two have changed their names and pitches. Holly Bush have moved to Hilton and changed their name to Hilton Athletic and Longford have replaced them on the Church Broughton pitch and will be called Holly Bush United. There have been teams from Hilton before and at one time the village had two as there was a big Army vehicle dump their with a team.

Tuesday 7 April - TT No.200: Andy Gallon - 'Gillford Park should get through their grading inspection, and the team look good enough to clinch a third promotion in four seasons. This ambitious, friendly little club will be looking forward to making another major leap up the pyramid'. It's exciting times for Gilly as Andy finds out when he visits the club for a Northern Alliance League Premier Division fixture against Heddon played on 28/04/09...yet another superb report!

Tuesday 7 April - TT No.199: Ian Hill - 'With a free day in London I had plenty of choice for grounds to visit but I revisited an old favourite, The Old Spotted Dog Ground, home of Clapton FC. It’s a bit like “marmite” this ground you either love it or hate it!' Say no more! FGIF readers will simply love reading Ian's report from this famous old club as he covers the Essex Senior League game against Stansted played on 04/04/09...shame about the attendance though!

Tuesday 7 April - TT No.198: Bob Davies - 'The match was an entertaining spectacle and it could easily have been 3-3 at half time but the woodwork and some good saves from the visitor's 'keeper...'. Monday 6 April - TT No.197: Paul Roth - 'I've been waiting to visit Lancing United since I read that the club issues programmes on a regular basis, and this fixture seemed the ideal moment to fulfil this long-held dream'. Another lovely report as Paul travels down to attend the West Sussex League Premier Division match against league leaders Newtown Villa. Plenty of goals in this one with several perfectly captured on camera as Paul provides those essential matchday pictures! Top notch stuff!
