Monday 21 December - Miles Per Gallon No. 35: Andy Gallon - Getting the sums right...Mark Hughes pays the price at Eastlands as the owners of Manchester City want to see an instant return on their investment; King's Lynn FC sadly hit the wall after 130 years for the sake of £70K; travellers suffer as falling temperatures cause havoc with the weekend fixtures and FC Halifax Town have grounds to celebrate in the New Year. Despite the cold snap Andy's last report of the year will definitely lift your spirits... Wednesday 16 December - Ground News re-Whitehaven Amateurs FC: Andy Gallon - writes: 'Whitehaven Amateurs FC: The Northern League Second Division club's ground could soon be razed and replaced by a 14,000-capacity stadium to be shared with the town's professional rugby league club. Northern Ventures Northern Gains magazine reports that work could begin in the spring after plans to redevelop the rugby league club's neighbouring Recreation Ground home were vetoed by the Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation. It means the Amateurs' plans, seven years in the making, to revamp one side of their own facilities, once an athletics track known as the County Ground, will have to be shelved'.
Wednesday 16 December - Praise for FGIF: Bobby Guthrie - writes: 'Hello FGIF. It was good to meet up with one your team at the Glenafton Athletic vs. Ashfield match at Loch Park, New Cumnock. It takes some dedication to travel up from Leicester to take in the game, I hope you enjoyed your trip and here's hoping the Glens can put up a better performance on your next visit. Monday 14 December - TT No.125: Keith Aslan - 'The scenery is spectacular and I had difficulty concentrating on the game, my eyes constantly wandering up to the mountains'. Our intrepid traveller is truly impressed when he visits Bethesda Athletic (v Llangollen) for the Cymru Alliance fixture played on 12/12/09...sounds like hopping heaven...not to be missed! Monday 14 December - TT No.124: Chris Freer - 'The Borough Sports Ground used to feature a running track with a pitch in the middle. Evidence of this still exists at one end, but the rest of the stadium is reasonably well developed, with raised terracing all the way round, a decent sized main stand, and covered standing areas on one side and behind a goal.' It's another superbly crafted report from our roving reporter who takes in the Ryman League Premier Division clash at Sutton United (v Kingstonian) played on 12/12/09...complete with tribal warfare, feisty blonds, dodgy language and a Scotch egg...it's definitely a report to savour! Monday 14 December - TT No.123: Gary Spooner - 'The ground has one stand and three sides of hard standing. The backdrop of mountains and villas is superb.' The second game of the weekend takes Gary to Port Pollenca (v Condor) in the Primera Regional de las Islas Baleares Grupo 3a fixture played on 06/12/09...with more terrific ground, action and matchday images to view you'll agree this is another cracking read! Monday 14 December - TT No.122: Gary Spooner - 'The ground itself was part of a multi sport complex with the pitch being surrounded by an athletics track. There was only access to one large stand with the other three sides being out of bounds though I was allowed to walk round before kick off and take some pics'. Check out the fist of a weekend double in Mallorca sees Gary attend the Primera Regional Preferente de Mallorca fixture between Pollenca (and Murense) played on 05/12/09...contains some of the most stunning ground, action and matchday images ever to feature on FGIF...it's truly breath-taking stuff! Monday 14 December - Whitwell FC Ground Update: Denis Jared - writes: 'Hi Martin. Remember Whitwell AFC in summer? Well just to keep you updated we are well on the way to finishing our new pavilion (photo attached) and we are making the effort of giving the old stand a loving restoration... A new (old) Whitwell AFC sign has been remounted and the whole structure will be given a makeover bringing it back to faded glory. Our first season in the Herts County senior league has started well and we currently stand mid table which we are pleased with. The new facility and the renovated stand will of course be of interest to the ground hoppers and grass roots FA as we have raised over £500,000. If you would like to come over in the summer when we do our official opening you will be very welcome I can let you have the details at a nearer date'. Monday 14 December - Middlesex County League Hop Info: Tony Incenzo - writes: 'Please publicise...A reminder that the Middlesex League's next Saturday morning groundhopper fixture is…

Also include matchday pictures to make this essential viewing for travellers everywhere! Sunday 13 December - No.120: Justin Holmes - 'Although the recent prolonged heavy rain had taken its toll on the pitch, making it very tacky, it was perfectly playable, but the uneven surface threatened to make this a game where passing football was at a premium, and so it proved'. The first of an afternoon double sees Justin at Lancing United (West Sussex Football League) for the Sussex Intermediate Cup Third Round tie (v East Dean) played yesterday...includes a selection of the very best ground, action and matchday images... Sunday 13 December - TT No.119: Andy Gallon - 'Ironworks Road is a smashing little ground, bursting with individuality and whose incomparable setting merely adds to its charms'. Thursday 10 December - TT No.117: Justin Holmes - 'On entering the stadium, unfortunately but predictably, and to voice a familiar complaint, there was little to distinguish this stadium from most other newly built stadia across Europe, including England. Roomy, comfortable and with good facilities, but little character'. Read the report and view the pictures from Justin's visit to Espanyol (v Racing Santander) in a La Liga match can be found in the second part of his 'Sunday Double' in Barcelona played on the evening of 06/12/09. Inspirational stuff! Thursday 10 December - TT No.116: Justin Holmes - 'The ground is fairly small but neat and tidy, with one main covered seated stand along one touchline, an uncovered seated stand along the opposite touchline, and with standing room around the rest of the pitch...set amongst several other pitches in a large sporting complex where Espanyol's youth teams also play'. The first game of a 'Sunday Double' in Barcelona sees Justin at the Segunda Division B Group 3 fixture for Espanyol B (v UE Sant Andreu) played on the morning of 06/12/09... check out the words and pictures here...you'll love them! Wednesday 9 December - Miles Per Gallon No.34: Andy Gallon - It's time to look forward...with the recession still biting Andy suggests how some of the bigger clubs can help many of those struggling financially and looks forward to the next round of the Vase, the prospect of ticking off some new grounds over the festive period and recommends a book that would make an ideal stocking filler for football fans everywhere at Christmas...it's another terrific topical read to inspire the hopper in you! Richard also writes: (on 29/11): 'I will be sending you a Loughborough Dynamo FC programme for review. I feel that as I am a contributor to this and my son Tom is the photographer, I would have a biased viewpoint! As I am more involved at Loughborough now I try to help them in any way I can. With this in mind I have agreed with Rob Smith, programme editor, that anyone who emails me mentioning FGIF to me prior to going to a game they will be given a FREE programme (admission is £6). I will also try to get a team sheet for them, but this is dependent on the mood of the secretary on the day!
Hopefully you will be able to give this a plug on your still excellent site. Keep up the good work. Kind regards. Richard'.
WebEd - this is an excellent quality publication with many splendid articles (penned by Richard) and a range of superb colour photos (snapped by Tom)...travellers can take advantage of this generous invitation by contacting Richard on the following E-Mail address: richard.panter@btopenworld.com Don't forget to mention FGIF in your correspondence! Monday 7 December - Latest Ground News: Brian Buck - writes: 'You might wish to log the fact that Godmanchester Rovers have recently erected an 'Atcost' 45 seater stand, where the dugouts were. They have been moved over to the other side of the pitch. However they have also extended the original covered standing towards the new seated stand, which means if you sit in it you can't see the whole pitch. If they hadn't extended it then this would have been possible! Also in the last week or so Storrington (Sussex County League) have become the latest member of the Sussex County League to erect floodlights'. Sunday 6 December - Latest Images: Paul Roth - check out the very best ground, action and matchday images from Eversley FC (Combined Counties League Division 1) v Bedfont Sports played yesterday...now added to the NEW User Uploads Album for December 2009...top notch! Paul writes: '...you MUST get along to Eversley FC before too long! What a superb set up and a playing surface that's better than Wembley's. In fact, it's more akin to a cricket square! However hard it rains, there'll never EVER be a postponement at Fox Lane, I assure you. Fantastic, all colour, glossy programme too. For the record, Bedfont Sports won a scrappy match 2-1 in front of a crowd composed mainly of Groundhoppers. My game ended in near darkness as a mêlée in the visitor's penalty area led to a sending off following some pointless fisticuffs; you'd have thought the young men would have expended their energies by then, wouldn't you?!!'. Sunday 6 December - Latest Programme News: Keith Aslan - our programme guru sends us his latest list of clubs currently issuing in the Middlesex County Football League...for more go to the Programme News page...it's essential hopping info! Sunday 6 December - TT No.114: Chris Freer -'It’s easy to see why these two are the basement clubs. On the day, neither have very much to offer the beautiful game. Hard running and pretty passing might be desirable in the make-up of a successful side, but when just one of these is your only attribute, you’ve got a long, hard season ahead'. It's a trip up to Cumbernauld for Chris as he endures in the Scottish Football League Division 2 fixture at Clyde (v Arbroath) played yesterday...another sylish report that will be well received by hoppers everywhere! Sunday 6 December - TT No.113: Andy Gallon - 'If I had to pick, say, just 10 non-league UK football venues worth visiting, the Millfield Ground would make my list. Even empty, the place has presence, atmosphere and a sense of history'. Read more from Andy's superb report as he attends this exciting FA Vase third round tie at Crook Town (v Shildon) played yesterday...also includes a large selection of ground photos...hopping heaven! Sunday 6 December - TT No.112: Mike Latham - 'Though the final of the FA Vase at Wembley Stadium is invariably played on a gloriously sunny afternoon, the right to play at the national stadium is earned on filthy afternoons such as this one in Leicestershire'. It's FA Vase action all the way for Mike as he attends the third round fixture at Barwell (Midland Football Alliance) v Glossop North End played yesterday...complete with the very best matchday images this a report you cannot afford to miss! Friday 4 December - Urgent MCFL Fixture Info: Tony Incenzo - writes: 'Saturday December 5th 2009... due to the Indian Gymkhana pitch being unplayable Marsh Rangers F.C. have switched this M.C.F.L.Premier Division fixture to their home ground at Rosedale College, West End Green Road, Hayes, Middlesex. UB3 2SE on the 3G pitch with an 11.00am kick off'. Friday 4 December - TT No.111: Justin Holmes - 'Craven Cottage is certainly one of my favourite top-flight stadia - full of history and traditional quirks but is still a very modern and comfortable facility'. Our roving reporter takes in the UEFA Europa League Group Stage fixture at Fulham (v CSKA Sofia) played last night...a great read and result! Thursday 3 December - FIFA Weblink added: WebEd - on the eve of the 2010 World Cup Draw in Cape Town, South Africa, travellers may be interested to know that the official FIFA website URL has been added to the FGIF home page. Details can also be found by clicking on: http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/index.html Thursday 3 December - Fixture Information: Brian Buck - writes: 'There are two games coming up which may interest people. Firstly tonight (03/12) there is an FA Sunday Cup match between Unity Nirankari and Club Lewsey being played at Hitchin Town FC. Also on Friday, in addition to Whitworth v Irchester United (UCL Division 1), Chatteris Town are playing Mildenhall Town Reserves (Kershaw League Senior A Division). All games kick off @ 7.45pm and with the weather as it is they all need to be checked out prior to travelling'. Thursday 3 December - TT No.110: Andy Gallon - 'The Pirelli Stadium, wedged into a parcel of land between busy roads and an industrial estate, is a cut above your average new ground. The scale may be modest, but a bit of thought seems to have gone in to its internal and external appearance, which is restrained, smart, stylish and (as fashionistas such as myself are apt to remark) on trend'. Our leading correspondent reports on the Football League Division 2 fixture at Burton Albion (v Accrington Stanley) played on 01/12/09...another fascinating read! Thursday 3 December - Programme Reviews: Bob Davies - check out the latest programme scans and programme details from the following matches: Boreham Wood PASE v Dunstable Town (in the FA Youth Cup) played on22/10/09; MK Dons (Football League Division 1) v Northampton Town (in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy) on 10/11/09; Congelton Town (North West Counties Lge) v Shildon (in the FA Vase Round 2) on 14/11/09; Boreham Wood (Ryman League Premier) v Kingstonian on 17/11/09; Fleet Town (Ryman League Div 1 South) v Chatham Town on 21/11/09 and London Tigers (South Midlands League Premier) v Langford on 21/11/09 all added to the PR page for December 2009...
