Monday 30 March - TT No.193: Paul Roth - '...my immediate impression of the club's HQ is one of joy. A slope runs down to the community hall, which is home to football in Winter and cricket in Summer and is used by both as a cosy clubhouse. The playing area is roped in it's entirety and with household dwellings and tall trees surrounding it, the whole has an enclosed, hugger mugger and homely feel to it'. Despite the lack of French onion soup and pickled walnuts, you will really enjoy reading Paul's report from Loddon United (Anglian Combination League Premier Division) v Hindringham played on 28/03/09...also includes the very best matchday images from the George Lane ground!

Thursday 26 March - TT No.189: Richard Panter - 'The attendance on the night was a most encouraging 147 given that there were few visitors that I could see. The home supporters who I chatted to were welcoming and friendly. Given the club's support, facilities and skill on the pitch I personally feel that New Mills would be a most welcome addition to the Unibond First Division...' Richard is impressed by what he finds at Church Road as he takes in the North West Counties League Premier Division fixture at New Mills (v Abbey Hey) played last night...but did the pre-match omens prove to be correct?

Thursday 26 March - TT No.188: Andy Gallon - 'I hadn't visited the Wrens since their Central Midlands League Premier Division days, and was stunned by the extent of the transformation. The ground, once a very basic set-up with sparse facilities, is now an aesthetic delight, boasting everything a club at this level of the pyramid - and possibly higher - would need'. The rule, which is used in America, means that if one team achieves a certain goal advantage over another the match is declared over thus sparing the losers further humiliation.

The Essex Olympian League Management Committee will be holding a special meeting in early April to discuss the leagues participation in the pilot scheme. The above has been taken from the April Edition of the Essex Olympian League Newsletter'.

The social club and club offices are located near to the car park entrance and the ground is about 100 metres away from here. Overlooked by Lancaster castle and some other fine old buildings, and the busy railway line, the Giant Axe is a neat and tidy well ordered venue'. Thursday 19 March - Tottenham Hotspur News Update: Andy Gallon - 'Tottenham Hotspur are still mulling over how to pay for the Northumberland Development Project, which includes the building of a new stadium on the White Hart Lane site. The revelation came from the Premier League club's chairman Daniel Levy as he announced record pre-tax profits of £39.8m for the last six months of 2008. He said as contributions to the scheme were assessed, the size of the funding gap which needs to be filled is becoming clearer. Thursday 19 March - TT No.179: Ian Hil - 'A smaller than normal crowd meant absolutely no atmosphere in the ground except for the swearing idiots and the Stafford “chavs” brainless taunts at the Workington players.  It was actually Rangers lowest crowd of the season and if they keep on churning up this rubbish then it will be no surprise if the crowds drop even further'. Monday 9 March - Eastern Counties League News: WebEd - Travellers may be interested to know that Tiptree United Football Club (ECL) may be looking to switch to Essex Senior League. The following message was added to the club website over the weekend:

Tiptree Issue Statement Over Future
CLUB STATEMENT

In light of rumour and speculation during the last few days, the Club feels it important to release the following Statement so that its Members, Players, Supporters and other local football followers can be kept fully in the picture regarding the Clubs aspirations for next season and beyond.

Everyone will be aware of the difficult financial climate in which most Clubs like our own are currently operate within, as well as our continued commitment to develop the new stadium and to progress up the football pyramid. With this in mind, the Club’s Management Committee have, over the last few weeks, carried out a full review of it’s activities in the hope that the path selected for these plans will be both affordable and achievable.

In its deliberations, the Club was mindful of maintaining a playing budget that would ensure a competitive edge with others that it competes against together with its current high costs of hiring training facilities for the Clubs three teams. The Committee also examined the plight of Clubs like AFC Sudbury, Bury Town and Soham Town who had committed their resources into winning promotion from the Ridgeons League only then to be promoted to a competition that was geographically unsuitable and that increased their operating costs considerably. The Committee was also conscience of the fact that it currently competes against several Clubs who are unlikely to take promotion as they have no wish to advance into the Southern League because of the cost implications that this would have.

Although work on the new stadium project is again gathering pace with the area having been fenced in over the last few weeks, it is clear that completion in readiness for the 2009/10 season is most unlikely and as a result, the Club will remain at its Chapel Road headquarters for one more campaign. The financial pressures that this places on the Club are immense and therefore the Club has been forced to look at all avenues to save money whilst maintaining it aspirations of trying to gain promotion to the next tier of non-league football.

With this in mind, the Club is currently involved in a feasibility study as to whether, if the opportunity arose, it should make the lateral move across the football pyramid from the Eastern Counties League to the Essex Senior League. This decision was made with the view that, if permitted, this change would greatly reduce the Clubs operating and travelling costs as well as provide a realistic and achievable route for promotion into the Ryman Football League.

As things stand at the moment, this proposal has the support of both competitions however as a final say will not and cannot be made by the Football Association until after this season has ended, no decision will be forthcoming until mid-May 2009 as to whether Tiptree United will move Leagues or not.

Obviously, this major change would impact across the whole Club and in light of this and to ensure that the Club complies with League Rules, it has been necessary for us to give formal written notice to the Ridgeons League that Tiptree United FC may be withdrawing from that competition once the decision is forthcoming from the Football Association.

This notice has included all three of the Club’s teams and therefore until the future of the 1st teams participation next season is clarified, it is not possible to determine whether, because of cost implications and League participation requirements, the Club will continue to run a Reserves and Youth team and/or what competition they will be involved with, if it does.

The Club hopes that, in making this statement, it will allay any concerns that people within the Club might have however should anyone still seek clarification then they are invited to contact Secretary, John Wisbey who will do his best to answer any questions.

In conclusion, the Club hopes that its Members, Players and Supporters will rally behind these decisions that have been taken and support the Committees belief that these will be the start of some exciting and rewarding times for Tiptree United FC.

John Wisbey, Secretary
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Management Committee

Monday 2 March - URGENT Fixture Information: John Clements - 'I am the webmaster for Guiseley AFC and thought your contributors might be interested to know that Guiseley kick-off their Centenary celebrations with a friendly match against the USA Major Soccer League Champions Columbus Crew on Tuesday 03 March 2009 at Nethermoor Park, Otley Road, Guiseley, LS20 8BT:

Website: www.guiseleyafc.co.uk
Directions: www.guiseleyafc.co.uk/matchday.htm

It will be a great footballing occasion with the old-established English club taking on the talent of the ‘new world’ soccer club who are current champions of the league in which David Beckham's LA Galaxy play.

Crew are coming to England to prepare for their next league campaign which kicks-off on March 21 at Houston Dynamo. They must wait until May for the big clash with David Beckham’s Los Angeles Galaxy.  Whilst in England the game against Guiseley will be sandwiched between games played against Everton and Liverpool Reserve teams at the Premiership clubs’ training grounds.

Among the Columbus Crew players with international recognition is forward Alejandro Moreno, who played for Venezuela in their friendly against Guatemala earlier this month. Crew have five players in the current USA squad in midfielders Brian Carroll, Eddie Gaven and Robbie Rogers, goalkeeper William Hesmer and defender and three-times World Cup veteran Frankie Hejduk.

The connection between the clubs comes through Guiseley AFC coach Mark Ellis. The former Bradford City winger and current City youth coach spends his summers in the USA coaching. Ellis said: “It is a very prestigious game for us. All our players will want to be involved in this one, it is something everyone at our club is looking forward to. I have been told that all of the Columbus first team squad players will be involved in their games over here. I’m sure there will be a lot of people who want to watch.”

Ellis added: “I have never coached any of their players or at their club but I have coached in that area in the States. I was based just a few miles from them and have some contacts there. They are one of the best sides in the MLS.”  A number of former Guiseley youth team players have experience of training with an MLS club with a number of them figuring in trials with LA Galaxy in the last two years - current Guiseley first team squad member Danny Husband being one of them.

Guiseley will give a debut in this game to midfielder Jordan Barnes, son of former Liverpool and England legend John Barnes. The former Chester City youngster’s arrival emphasises the links the Guiseley club has made with the university, as he is the third of their players to join the club this season'.

Monday 2 March - TT No.160: Chris Freer - '...straight from the kick-off... skips down the left flank again, skins a couple of defenders, exchanges passes with his centre-forward, sells a couple of dummies (one of them to the keeper) and ends up tapping the ball into an unguarded net from a foot out - a classic and well worth the entrance fee!' It's gripping stuff and so is Chris' report from Staines Town (Ryman Legue Premier Division) v Carshlton Athletic played on 28/02/09...don't miss it!

Monday 2 March - TT No.159: Mike Latham - '...if you like to watch your football in beautiful, scenic surroundings among a handful of dedicated club officials trying their hardest to preserve the traditions of the village then this is one for you'.
