Thursday 31st March - TT No.218: Andy Gallon - '...dear, oh dear, oh dear. This six-pointer between relegation battlers, both in the bottom four at kick-off, was simply dreadful'. Although the Turnbull Ground is one of Andy's favourite venues, the game left an awful lot to be desired. Read more from Andy's visit to Whitby Town (Northern Premier League Prem Div) v Hucknall Town played last night...a terrific account! The first game in the early evening kick offs (with a twist) is here! Check out Ian's report from his visit to Cheshire Lines (Liverpool County Prem League) v Leyfield in the George Mahon League Cup Round 3 played last night...top notch stuff! Wednesday 30th March - Club Statement from Clymping FC: Stephen Dobson - who received the following E-Mail regarding incidents at Clyming FC (Sussex County League) in a SCL fixture against Southwick last Saturday- Clymping 0 Southwick 5
Preamble - Match stopped after 80 minutes when two Clymping players recieved red cards and one refused to go and decided to take matters into his own hands, head-butting the referee before fleeing the scene. Clymping had already lost one play with a red card before all this happened. Four Sam Blundell goals and one from new signing Chris Logan (from AFC Uckfield).
We are embarrassed and stunned by the player's actions, which I am led to believe is totally out of character. We cannot apologise for him, and we cannot stop individual’s actions - but we can make sure a repeat of this never happens again. The player concerned will never play for this club again, if he is ever allowed to play football in the future. As a result of yesterday, both the club and the manager's reputation will get tarnished over something they couldn't control. Both the manager and the club are angry and upset by what has happened. I have personally spoken to Phil Wilkes, the referee involved yesterday, and apologised on behalf of the club. What was said will remain between us, but I don't think he will mind me saying that 'idiots' will not put him off his job. I'd like to apologise to Southwick and all those involved or watching yesterday, it was totally unacceptable. WebEd - On the same thread readers may be interested to read the latest poignant MPG (No.48) sent to FGIF by Andy today...see MPG news item below Wednesday 30th March - Latest Images: Gyles Basey-Fisher - Check out the latest ground, action and matchday photos from Gyles' recent hops to Nuneaton Town* (v Guiseley) in the Conference North played on 26/03/11 and Potters Bar Town (v Needham Market Town) in the Ryman League Div 1 North on 29/03/11...both now uploaded in the new FGIF album gallery... * re Nuneaton Town FC, Gyles adds via E-Mail: 'NB: Warning - a late change of plan meant that I didn't do the usual homework and on arrival discovered that Nuneaton Town are in the middle of building a new seated area along on side of the ground. It looks like seating will be inserted into the shell rather like the terracing has been at either end. I also think there is going to be a second stand nearer the half way line, but this was only from overhearing a conversation between the people standing beside me. So if like me you would rather not visit a ground during Wednesday 30th March - Latest Images: Mark Bembridge - View the latest matchday photos from a trip to Ilkeston Town FC for the Totesport.com Reserve League fixture between Nottingham Forest Reserves (v Derby County Reserves) played on 29/03/11...now uploaded in the new FGIF album gallery... Mark adds via E-Mail - 'Attendance was 703, not bad for a reserve game with a 2pm kick-off!' Wednesday 30th March - Miles Per Gallon: Andy Gallon - No.48 - When it's time to blow the whistle... Unbelievably assaults on grass roots referees have increased beyond all recognition over the last season. Football headlines continue to reveal that officials are being physically and verbally abused on a regular basis. It seems that the FA Respect campaign just isn't working. So where does the solution lie? In his most candid article yet Andy debates some of the reasons why such behaviour towards our officials is becoming the norm and suggests quite frankly how the FA, its clubs, players and the fans have a responsibility in putting an end to this culture...before it's too late! You'll agree this is a most thought-provoking review...for more go the MPG Home page by clicking on the MPG link in the menu above... Monday 28th March - Latest Images: Bob Davies - For his third game of the weekend Bob takes in the exciting Herts FA Sunday Senior Cup Final 2011 between Comet Sports lub and Belstone Sunday played yesterday at the Herts FA County Ground in Letchworth...check out Bob's superb matchday photos...now uploaded to the new FGIF album gallery... Bob adds via E-Mail - 'Please find attached photos from today's Herts F.A. Sunday Senior Cup Final played at the County Ground Letchworth. This seasons finalists were Comet Sports Club and Belstone Sunday. Both teams have had good runs in the national F.A. Sunday Cup competition with Comet Sports Club bowing at the semi final only last Sunday. One of the teams to be beaten on the way was Belstone Sunday at the quarter final stage. So a little bit of extra spice in this one'. 'The game lived up my expectations with Belstone playing a more methodical game and Comet showing a lot of skill and pace in a bid to take the Cup. It was Comet on the stroke of half time that took the lead with prolific scorer Nick Jackson finding the net. Belstone's approach didn't change in the second half and after a period of pressure equalised when Carl McCluskey headed home from a corner on 68 minutes. With ten minutes remaining a strange goal to give Comet back the lead. A throw in from the left evaded everyone and fell to feet of Nick Jackson and he volleyed home unmarked. Belstone weren't finished yet and Craig Tomkins thundered in a header from a dead ball situation with just one minute remaining to take the game into extra time. Both teams visibly tired in this period and Belstone claimed the winning goal on 113 minutes when Danilson Vincente was adjudged to have been brought down in the box. Craig Tomkins stepped up to score the decisive goal from the spot'.

Check out these cracking photos from the splendid Recreation Ground, home of Bath RUFC taken over the weekend...now added to the Rugby Union Grounds album in the FGIF gallery...you'll agree they are egg-ceptional pictures!! Andy adds via E-Mail: '...couldn't resist popping into the Recreation Ground to take some pics. A beautiful setting, with Bath Abbey and the city's plentiful Georgian architecture as a backdrop, but it's a woefully inadequate stadium for top-level rugby union. I'd say 75% of the spectator accommodation is of the temporary variety'. Monday 28th March - Latest Images: Bob Davies - It's a 'Cambridgeshire Double' for Bob as he brings us all the essential matchday photos with visits to Milton (Cambs County League Senior B Div) v Mildenhall Town Reserves and Histon Town Reserves (Eastern Counties League Prem Div) v Debenham Leisure Centre both played on 26/03/11...all uploaded to the new FGIF album gallery... Bob writes via E-Mail: 'Please find attached photos from the first game of my Cambridgeshire double today. My first visit of the day was to Milton v Mildenhall Town reserves in a Kershaw Cambridgeshire Senior A League match. With the home side, so I was told, being very understrength it was the visitors that came back from being behind twice to snatch all three points with an 87th minute winner. The 3-2 win for bottom of the League Mildenhall was also achieved with ten men for most of the second half after their only substitute suffered an injury and couldn't carry on'. 'My next game of the day was back one junction of the A14 and down to Histon where the reserves were taking on Debenham LC in a Ridgeon Eastern Counties League Premier Division fixture. This game was a real basement battle with Histon at the bottom of the table with 25 points from 35 games and Debenham LC just one place ahead also with 25 points but having played a game less. The first half was fairly even but goalless, which was surprising as both teams together had conceded 197 League goals so far this season. In the second half the youthful Histon side had considerable possession and kept the visitors penned in their own half for long periods, still no goal to show for their efforts. On 65 minutes, a quick breakaway by Debenham, Ian Gedny making the run and a good finish making it 1-0 to the visitors with a sucker punch. Obviously deflated by this but not letting it affect their game too much the home side pushed forward again. It took until the final minute of the game for Histon to get the reward their performance deserved with Eugene Libertucci beating the keeper from 25 yards with a well placed shot. A draw will satisfy Debenham rather than Histon in this relegation clash watched by 60 spectators'.

Monday 21st March - Hop Update: Chris Berezai - writes (via E-Mail) - 'I am delighted to be able to confirm that there will be a new Groundhop taking place - this time in the Northern Counties East League! This exciting news comes after the League Chairman, David Morrall, approached me with a view to holding such an event. We have worked together on initial arrangements, and the idea has now been given the seal of approval from both League Committee and member clubs. The first NCEL Hop will take place at Easter 2012, and will replace the SW Peninsula League in this slot for the next few years.
Although I cannot give any specific details of matches at the moment (for obvious reasons!), one interesting development is that we are looking at using the full potential of the Easter weekend and holding games over FIVE days - starting with a match on Maundy Thursday evening and then running three or four matches on each of Good Friday, Saturday, Easter Sunday, and the Holiday Monday. Potentially there may have 14 or 15 games on this hop, making it the biggest Hop ever!! It has also been decided that we will focus on a different area of the League's territory on each day, giving a chance to take in all aspects of the League's wide geographical area.
Further details will follow in due course; we would hope to be able to announce the games on the Hop around the start of the 2011/12 season'.

Bobs writes (19/03) via E-Mail - 'Today I had a visit to two new grounds that I had wanted to visit for several years. Ironic really that I finally got to visit both on the same day! The Tottenham Hotspur training ground at Chigwell was first on the agenda, as I believe they will be moving to a new centre at the old Whitewebbs complex before very long. Today's game was a FA Premiership Academy game against West Ham United. Spurs scored with just over a minute on the clock and added another ten minutes in. They were certainly the stronger side and added a third before the break. At the start of the second Spurs continued to pressure and only the crossbar stopped a fourth goal. West Ham worked very hard and with Spurs taking their foot off the gas it was the Hammers on the ascendency. Pulling a goal back just after the hour inspired the young Hammers to push forward even more. More chances came their way but they couldn't convert them to narrow the score line any further and the game ended 3-1 with about 70-80 spectators present in the Spring sunshine. An A3 sheet was given away with a copy of both team sheets, always welcome to actually put a name to who you are actually watching.
The game finished at 12.55pm giving me plenty of time to drive to my next game of the day Hinton v Harpenden Rovers which was very competitive and ended in a 2-1 win for the home side. More of this game in a travellers tale hopefully early next week.
No pictures from the Spurs game as I don't believe you are permitted to take them at Academy games'.

Wednesday 16th March - Miles Per Gallon: Andy Gallon - Just added - MPG No.47 - 'Hop'-ting Out! With the Hop 'season' only a few weeks away now, it's an exciting time of year for the majority of hoppers who just can't wait for the multi-game extravaganza to begin. For Andy though such an experience holds little interest these days and decides it's not really for him. In his latest article he explains quite candidly why such a footy fest no longer appeals. If it's beautiful landscapes that you yearn for then there's an mouth-watering photographic bonus portraying some terrific grandstands in Keighley...you can definitely feel the peace and tranquility of such a glorious Airedale setting...and not a ball in sight either...now that must be true Nirvana, surely?! For more go to the MPG Home page... Wednesday 16th March - New Albums added to the FGIF gallery: WebEd - As part of Andy's latest MPG review (No.47)and following several requests, two new albums have been added to the gallery.
