Included in the development would be an indoor exhibition centre/arena with a capacity of 10,000, a diver training facility for the Royal Navy and a residential, retail and leisure complex. Fratton Park would become houses and shops. If planning permission is granted promptly, work on the new stadium, to be designed by a Switzerland-based architect, could begin next year.

Wednesday 11 June - Fixture Information Exclusive to FGIF: Mark Jones - writes: 'Saturday June 21 2008 at Ffordd Padarn, Llanberis, 2pm ko - CPD Llanberis v ASD Real Velletri (Rome). It's possible a programme will be issued, best to check first.

LLANBERIS FC will kick off their pre-season preparations early when they encounter an Italian job next weekend.

The Welsh Alliance League outfit will host ASD Real Velletri, a relatively new club from Italy based near its capital city of Rome, on Saturday, June 21 at Ffordd Padarn (kick-off 2pm).
The unexpected friendly has come about as club chairman Colin Saynor, also a member of the Llanberis management team, made contact with an old friend from Deiniolen who emigrated to Italy about 20 years ago. The friend, freelance photographer Gary Jones,  is an official of Real Velletri and was keen to set up a friendly in North Wales. He initially contacted Llanberis secretary Eurwyn Thomas, and after he liaised with Colin it soon became apparent it was the Gary Jones he knew from years ago.

“I got in touch with Gary and it's grown from there really,” said Colin, a long-serving Llanberis player. “We’ve already made plans for a return game in Italy next year – the lads are quite keen to go!” Real Velletri was founded in 2002 by a group of seven friends during a dinner in the countryside of Velletri while they were discussing football in the commune on the Alban Hills in Lazio, which has a population of about 50,000. The club was formed, playing its home matches in the Giovanni Scavo stadium, but had to start from the bottom rung of the Italian pyramid system. Real Velletri won its “Third Category” championship in 2003/2004, but was relegated after two years. This season the team finished third, but failed to get in the “Seconda Categoria” after losing in the play-offs. “We’re looking forward to it,” said Llanberis manager Euron Davies. “It’s called a friendly, but we’re expecting it to be quite physical. Having looked at their website it appears they are quite a professional outfit.”
Davies will have the majority of last season’s squad available for the Velletri game, plus a few guest players.

“There’s a new structure in the signing system this year; we are not able to sign anyone until July 5 and contacting any players beforehand would be seen as an illegal approach,” he said.
“Therefore, we can’t really plan for next season yet but having this game will help our preparations.” Mark Jones, Production Editor North Wales weekly titles.

Saturday 7 June - Site Update: WebEd - the FGIF Index, TT Index and Football Programme Database for 2007-2008 have all been extensively updated to include details for this season (as at 6 June 2008). Any further  end of season club reports and programme information submitted this month will be added to the relevant pages and then transferred to the main index/archive in due course. News items received in July will then be added to the PS/August pages for next season. Monday 19 May - NCEL News for 2008-09: Andy Gallon - writes: 'Update from the newly-sponsored KoolSport Northern Counties (East) League: Five clubs, subject to AGM approval, have been promoted into the First Division for the 2008-09 season. Askern MW, Appleby-Frodingham Athletic (Scunthorpe) and Grimsby Borough, who groundshare with Brigg Town, move up from the Central Midlands League while Brighouse Town and Hemsworth MW climb out of the West Riding County Amateur League. Bridlington Town come down from UniBond League Division One North and join the Premier Division. Fans of Halifax Town, thrown out of the Blue Square Conference and soon to be liquidated, are likely to stage a public meeting next week with a view to setting up a supporter-run club. If agreement cannot be reached with Calderdale Council to play at The Shay, the chances are this club will end up in the NCEL First Division. Hopes are high, however, that the club will get the go-ahead to play in UniBond League Division One North. To complicate matters, a consortium involving former Football League professional Bobby Ham is still interested in reviving the Shaymen, though the FA have said they would accept only one new club from Halifax into the non-league pyramid. The supporters want to press ahead with their own option in case the consortium fails to deliver, leaving Town fans high and dry'.

The FA has announced Ian Benjamin's men, who won the Ridgeons League, Premier Division title, will play in the British Gas Business Southern League, Division One Midlands. Manager Benjamin had wanted to be placed in the Ryman League, but Soham will have to take on the likes of Leamington, Malvern and Chasetown during the next campaign. Benjamin said: "We're disappointed and the downside could be that one or two of the players don't want to do the travelling. But, it is new for us, it is exciting and we will have the attitude of looking forward to every game. I'm looking to bring in one or two younger players, but I want to give the current players the chance at this level". (by Michael Vaughton).

Sunday 11 May - Beeston St. Anthony's (West Yorks League Premier Div): Andy Gallon -writes..' I
Thought this might be of interest to FGIF readers.
West Yorkshire League Premier Division club Beeston St Anthony's are set for some welcome publicity and a major cash boost. Their Beggars Hill ground (February TT78-189) is to feature in a film version of David Peace's eyeopening book 'The Damned United', which traces the infamous 44-day reign as Leeds United manager of the late Brian Clough. Researchers have visited Saints' spectacularly sited ground, which overlooks Elland Road, as part of a location scouting mission and took preliminary video footage. Club programme editor and committee member Terry Rowe reports the venue is to be depicted as the training ground of Derby County from the days when Clough was in charge of the Rams. The terraced red-brick back-to-backs high above Beeston's ground are also to play a part in a film which, apparently, will star Jim Broadbent as former Derby chairman Sam Longson and Timothy Spall as Peter Taylor, Clough's right-hand man throughout his managerial career. Best of all, as far as Beeston are concerned, the film company plan to pay the club £500 a day for using their facilities - and estimate they will need to spend two days on location at Beggars Hill. A nice little earner!'
