Sunday 7 June - Site Update: WebEd - End of season notes:

The complete TT Index for 2008-2009 has now been extensively updated to include details for this season (as at the end of May 2009). The FGIF Programme Database and FGIF Index for 2008-2009 as well as the A-Z Club Index will be completed over the next couple of weeks. For this reason the site will only be updated on a weekly basis over the next couple of months until the new season commences...

Any further club news, reports, league constitution changes, programme news etc submitted this month will be added to the News Updates page for May/EoS and then transferred to the main Index/Aarchive in due course. Items received in July will then be added to the PS/August pages for next season.

In preparation for 2009-2010 please send us any news about forthcoming Fixtures etc so that details can be quickly published online. If you would like to advertise your fixtures then drop us a line by IMS or E-Mail.

In the meantime I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the site over the last season. This includes both our regular correspondents and those who perhaps write in less frequently. Although I do not often have enough time to acknowledge each one of you personally I would like say that your help has been invaluable in making FGIF such a useful resource to all football travellers and interested visitors. The news items, matchday photos and reports, programme information etc received has once again been truly inspirational. It never fails to amaze me where some of you get to! A big thankyou.

I would also like to take the opportunity in thanking my family (including Fran and the girls) for putting up with my continuing obssession and for the extended use of the computer.

Enjoy your summer and we look forward to hearing from you all once again next season! Cheers, Martin.

It has been reported some council officers and politicians oppose the idea because of its impact on existing shops. But expert Orr claims the supermarket would “stimulate the local economy”. Friday 22 May - Miles Per Gallon No.26: Andy Gallon - It's all in the lap of the gods! For the enthusiastic traveller ticking off any new ground can often involve a bit of luck. Work and family commitments; postponements due to the weather and even traffic congestion en route to a game can affect our best laid plans. But for Andy it’s been more about the fixtures themselves. With plenty of grounds left ‘to do’ on his list, the games just don’t seem to match the times he wants to go. With this in mind he intends to holiday in Scotland at the start of next season. Surely the fixture gods will be kind to him when he returns to one of his favourite hopping places? For more read on

Tuesday 19 May - TT No.230: Mike Latham - 'The Cumberland County League runs five knock-out competitions with the Ken Glover Memorial Trophy staged at the end of the season.  It seemed strange to find that four quarter-final ties were being staged as late as 16th May but the choice was whittled down to St Margaret Mary’s FC, based in Carlisle. It proved to be something of an inspired decision for never have I witnessed a game played in such an unusual setting as this one'. WebEd - FGIF are only too pleased to help...

Thursday 14 May - TT No.229: Andy Gallon - 'Killie like to describe themselves (admittedly, there's not much competition), as 'The Pride of Ayrshire'. Sunday 10 May - Club News: Andy Gallon - writes: 'News item concerning Hutton Cranswick United: The Central Midlands League Premier Division game against Louth Town on Saturday, May 9th could have been United's last at Rotsea Lane. The club have been offered a new site about three miles away by the Driffield Agricultural Society, whose large plot of land is partly occupied by the Kelleythorpe ground of Driffield RUFC. United plan to invite Central Midlands League officials to inspect the proposed new venue, which does not, apparently, require much work to reach the required grading. United officials are keen to stress they do not have any plans to change the club's name to feature Driffield in the title, though they acknowledge the move could lead to bigger attendances. United drew 2-2 with Louth, who clinched the championship with the point they gained thanks to Sam Smith's 78th-minute equaliser'.

Tuesday 5 May - TT No.222: Paul Roth - 'GET HERE QUICK!! This Saturday, May 9th, is your last chance to visit this picturesque venue as it stands. As of next season the club is decamping to the adjacent field, with a view to sorting out the terrible drainage problems. The ground, as it is currently will be gone forever, as the railings are to be uprooted and the 'bowl' is to be completely levelled. Will it ever be the same?' Sound advice and an absolute gem of a report from Paul as he expertly covers the Kent County League Division 2 East match at Platt United (v Bredhurst Juniors) played yesterday...as always the matchday photos are simply superb...one not to be missed!

Monday 4 May - TT No.221: Andy Gallon - 'Stone Dominoes knocked spots off their North West Counties League counterparts in a remarkable finish to the First Division season - but seem destined to miss out on promotion. The Staffordshire club, under manager Shaun Hollinshead, have won 13 of their last 14 games as part of a club record sequence of 12 straight victories. The single failure, a 4-1 defeat at rivals AFC Liverpool last week, looks likely to prove expensive'.
