 19/04/12 MPG No.54 - Saving those Hopping pennies...

Like most of us faced with the uncertainties of the current economic climate Andy has decided to cut his hopping cloth accordingly and has reduced his travelling commitments in recent months. With fewer long trips and less midweek fixtures to speak of he has found the draw of local rugby league and union as well as ice hockey irresistible and definitely much more petrol budget friendly.

 

Talking of other sports Andy reflects on the controversial events surrounding this year’s Grand National race at Aintree and makes his views perfectly clear calling for some radical reforms on the future of this famous national hunt occasion.

 

With Liverpool in mind his thoughts turn to Reds' manager Kenny Dalglish whom he had the pleasure of watching as a player back in the 80’s. How times have changed for the dour Scot as he now struggles to guide his club through some rather stormy Premier League waters. Perhaps the distraction of an FA Cup Final victory can save him?

 

On the subject of Wembley Andy focuses on the forthcoming all-Northern League FA Vase Final. Although this looks set to create a record-low attendance figure he reports that the well regarded NVNG magazine is doing its bit to drum up much needed local interest. He also suggests that the possible way forward might be to stage the competition as a curtain raiser to the FA Trophy Final.
