Parkhouse (0) 1 Kinsley Boys (1) 1

A day to remember, me duck!

This is what groundhopping is all about! Once in a while you stumble across a club that gives you a real buzz. Parkhouse Football Club is one such place and our visit to the Mill Road ground in Clay Cross Derbyshire couldn't have been any better. Great stuff!

The hospitality shown by an enthusiastic group of committee members and loyal fans is top notch. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived for this Central Midlands League Premier Division game against fellow newcomers Kinsley Boys. With complimentary refreshments and a copy of the matchday programme thrown in, we were given special treatment by everyone at this delightful little club.

The day was truly complete when we bumped into fellow traveller and FGIF correspondent Andrew Gallon during the final moments of this closely fought contest which ended 1-1. I will not attempt to duplicate Andrew's excellent review (see Travellers' Tales No.61) which provides a most comprehensive guide and paints a perfect picture.

One word though about the club's terrific matchday programme - brilliant! As Andrew rightly points out this splendid 44-pager is included with the £2 admission. It is one of the best I have seen in this league for some time and certainly raises the profile of the club with its many sponsors featured inside its glossy pages. By sheer concidence FGIF programme maestro Jim Moore was also in attendance at the game and sent me a review of this programme the following morning (see PR Sept 2007)!

Since starting life in the Chesterfield and District Sunday League, Parkhouse FC have risen through the Hope Valley Premier League and the Midlands Regional Alliance joining the Premier Division of the CML this season. Let's hope that they can get the support they deserve from the local council in order to progress further.

If you haven't been to Parkhouse FC yet make it a priority. A visit to this lovely club comes highly recommended. You'll love it. Oh the joys of hopping!
