TT No.162: Bob Davies - Sat 4th May 2013; Royston Town A v Hemingfords Utd; Cambs County League Division 1B; Venue: Eternit Sports Club, Melbourn; Result: 3-0.

For my second game of the day I took advantage of Royston Town A playing at an alternative venue of the Eternit Sports & Social Club. This ground is situated in Melbourn, not far off the A10 from Royston.

The complex consists of three football pitches, cricket and bowls. There was a clubhouse but this was not open on this particular day. The pitch had been roped off along one side, on the other side were some permanent wooden dug outs. The pitch wasn't at its best however both teams made the best of it on a showery afternoon.

Royston Town A needed all three points to secure successive promotions but Hemingfords United were determined to make them work hard for any reward on the day. Mitchell Cooper and Jordan Hall gave Royston a 2-0 cushion at the break and sight of promotion to Premier Division. Hemingfords played well in the second half keeping the pressure on but couldn't find the net. It was Royston that settled the game in the 73rd minute. Substitute, John Middlemas, chased down the keeper, who completely missed his clearance allowing Middlemas an open goal for Royston's third.

I'm not to sure if anybody else uses this venue for Saturday football.
