This match, in the league’s auxiliary cup competition, featured Prestatyn Albion, next to bottom of Division One, against Bro Cernyw, fourth from top in the Premier Division.

The Welsh speaking visitors, from Llangernyw, near Abergele, would have been expecting a fairly easy ride I would guess, and it all started so well for them with a goal on 10 minutes. They continued to boss the first half and wasted several more chances before the break. At half time, I heard the referee giving the home manager some tactical advice, and this paid off at the start of the second half as Albion won a penalty which was easily put away.

This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Cernyw and play was fairly subdued for the next half hour until, following a rare attack, the visitors re-took the lead with a header after 80 minutes. Albion weren’t to be outdone though, and they duly equalised near the end to round off a splendid afternoon’s entertainment.

Albion play at the playing fields at the end of Tip Lane, off Lon Goed in Prestatyn. This area will be familiar to those of you who went on the Welsh Alliance hop at the start of the season as Meliden FC are based a couple of streets away.
