Rudheath is a small village just south of Northwich and the football team are based at Rudheath Social Club on Middlewich Road next door to a Co-Op branch. At the rear of the Co-op is Griffiths Park which is where the football team play. The pitch is railed off with a dug out for the visitors down one side of the pitch. There are absolutely no spectator facilities at all, but being a public park with a kiddies play area, why would there be?

After starting the season with three straight wins, Rudheath have floundered somewhat since then and this was their third defeat in a row. Gamesley were much the better side although they were helped by bitter infighting in the Rudheath ranks with everybody constantly moaning about their team mates to anyone who would listen. Action wise, Gamesley took the lead early on and led 1-0 at the break. After half time they upped the tempo even more and raced in to a 4-0 lead before Rudheath scored two late consolation goals to give the score a more respectable look which they certainly didn’t deserve.

On a roasting hot afternoon the journey up the M6 had been a slow and painful process which took about a hour longer than it should have done. It was worth it though as in my experience the Cheshire league is very competitive, and sometimes, overly so. The football on display here was very good and the appearance of a match programme available ‘for a donation’ was an added bonus.
