Boroughbridge play on a multi sport facility on Aldborough Road in the town. On my visit the town’s cricket team were also at home, playing on a square next to the football pitch and there were also several bowls matches taking place as well. The football ground is most impressive, being fully railed off with a seated stand between the cricket and football pitches, which could house 30 people at a push. The home dug out is on the far side of the pitch and was the most palatial I have seen in some time! There is a large clubhouse and changing room block which is used by both cricket and football players. A tea bar was up and running throughout, and the main bar itself opened at half time.

The first half was full of endeavour and muscle, but very little finesse and ended goalless. After the break, with the ears of both managers still ringing following a ‘chat’ from the Referee who made it very clear that he was fed up with the constant backchat from both sets of players, a bout of football broke out. Whitkirk took a deserved lead, but a couple of clever substitutions turned the game round for Boroughbridge who raced 2-1 ahead, only for the visitors to get the equaliser their play had merited, near the end.

Once again a splendid day out in one of my favourite leagues.
