TT No.67: Ian Brown - Sat 26th March 2016; Moneyfields v Verwood; Wessex League Premier Division; Result: 0-0; |
Moneyfields play in the Copnor area of Portsmouth.
On entering the ground there is seated stand towards the railway line and on
the other is building housing the refreshments; further down this side is
the changing room block which has an overhang which could be classed as a
covered standing area. The rest of the ground is open to the elements with hard
standing all the way round . Beyond the trees on the far side from the
turnstile there is a practice pitch. Not the best of games, up there with the Soham,
Thatcham & Raunds as far as 0-0's go. Verwood nearly took the lead early on when a
cross James Murray hit the bar. It was a game of no frills or should that be
thrills - with no nonsense tackling. Moneyfields nearly took the lead just
before the half hour, Verwood defending resolutely with blocks from defenders
culminating in the final rebound heading goalwards but was palmed away by Chris
Lynch. Just before the interval Moneyfields nearly took the lead from a corner
when again Lynch made the save of the match diving across goal to palm the ball
off the line. All that can be said for the second half is that it
was a case of two solid defences blunting attacks. More fun was had watching the frequent trains going
past, trying to second guess what operating company they were before they
appeared. |
