Tradition in the Hardy household is that my final game of every season is in the Wrexham Area league. There were two clubs I needed yesterday, namely Coedpoeth United and Johnstown Youth, with the latter winning the battle due to Johnstown offering me a copy of the one and only programme they have issued this season!

Their ground is in the middle of a large housing estate, and is surrounded on all four sides by houses. There is a small car park, and the players change in the Johnstown Sports Pavilion which is next to the car park. There are two football pitches, with the main pitch used by Johnstown being railed off. No other spectator facilities to speak of, although I was able to shelter from the blazing sun under a blossom laden tree!

On the pitch, neither side had anything to play for, with Johnstown 3rd from bottom and Llanuwchllyn having already clinched second spot, but the Welsh speaking visitors decided to add a little spice to their performance by trying to overtake Champions Cefn Albion’s total of 117 goals scored. To do this they needed to score 12 or more goals today and with goals going in fairly regularly they achieved their target in the 85th minute to be greeted by a huge cheer from their travelling supporters.

Johnstown were a very friendly club and Secretary Llion Drake told me their first programme had been a big success with £27 raised through sales. Such a success in fact, that he said he would probably try to issue at least once a month next season, which is very good news for us paper-chasers.

Well worth a visit.
