The final match of the Wolverhampton Combination each season is the Baker Cup final, which is traditionally held at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves are an excellent supporter of grassroots football in the City, and allow just about every local Saturday and Sunday league to play finals there, which is much appreciated by all concerned.

Last night saw the two best supported teams in the league playing. A crowd of 312 turned up to give excellent vocal support to their chosen team, and they were rewarded with an absolute cracker of a game. In summary, Emerald completely bossed the first half and deservedly led 2-0 at the break. After half time Azaad scored early on, equalised after an hour, and then scored the winner with two minutes to go to send their supporters wild with excitement.

One of my photographs shows the cup that was presented to the winners last night. This isn’t the Baker cup however. The Baker cup itself is so old and so valuable that we don’t bring it along to the Molineux, but hand it over to the winners at a subsequent league committee meeting.

As a committee member of the Wolverhampton Combination myself, I was given permission to go anywhere in the ground to take photos last night, and I am rather pleased with some of the resulting pictures. Bet you couldn’t do that at any of our precious Premier league clubs!
