TT No.2: Barry Neighbour - Saturday 14th July 2007; Burnham Ramblers v Leyton; Pre-Season Friendly  Result: 2-1; Programme: No; FGIF Rating: 3*

Strange day as Burnham were scheduled to play THURROCK according to their website. At 3.00pm they were still awaiting the opposition to turn up and a mini-bus duly rolled in from LEYTON FC. Sure enough Ramblers played the Ryman's Premier side in a match that kicked off at 3.45pm and took a 4th minute lead when a through ball caught out the Leyton defence and a Burnham forward lobbed the ball over the stranded keeper. Leyton were looking the more composed side but wasted their chances whilst the hosts looked dangerous on the break. 20 minutes into the second half and Burnham doubled their advantage when their forward was allowed to beat three defenders before unleasing a powerful drive from 10 yards. Leyton still created several chances but could not convert any of them until 5 minutes from time when the ball was laid back on the edge of the penalty area for the Leyton player to shoot from 25 yards, the ball taking a wicked deflection to give the Burnham keeper no chance. The final score ended at 2-1 to the Essex Senior League side.

The ground has a stand and a covered area opposite. It also has 3 steps of terracing behind one goal. It was about 25 minutes walk from the railway station.

As for the game - Burnham's Website gave the result as Burnham Ramblers 2 THURROCK 1! Checking up other websites, I found out that Thurrock were never listed to play Burnham Ramblers but it was EAST THURROCK instead!! I don't know when the fixture was changed as on Leyton's website they were due to have their first friendly at Enfield on 25th July. Still I am grateful that I actually saw a game and it was just not cancelled at the last minute.
