TT No.13: Dave Reed - Sat 11 August 2007; Coton Green v Thimblemill REC; Midland Comb League Div 1; Result: 3-0; Attendance: approx. 30; Programme: 12 pages, £1; FGIF Rating: 3*

Along with fellow Traveller Geoff Combes (who did the driving), I visited newly promoted (to the Midland Combination Division One) Coton Green on Saturday 11th August.

The ground is located in Fazeley just south of Tamworth down the narrow New Mill Lane off the A4091.  The lane runs into the ground and opens out into the car park with the railed off pitch running lengthways towards a newish building housing the changing rooms, club lounge and the tea bar.  Here a twelve page computer produced programme was available for £1 and there was no other admission charge.  During the summer, at their own expense, the home players have laid hard-standing round most of the pitch and also put down the base for a stand on the far side.

The home side got the best possible start to their new campaign by going two goals up inside the first 22 minutes and fairly comfortably held on to the lead until eight minutes from time when they scored a third.

It was decent entertainment on a hot afternoon and the club should be well worth a visit but for the time being go on a fine day.

Attendance approx 30, worth three stars.
