After the game at Potton (see TT78 No 20), it was a drive up the A1 and a visit to the headquaters of The Peterborough FA at Dogsthorpe. Peterborough Northern Star were playing Rothwell Corinthians in a UCL Division 1 game. The FA Complex has three pitches all with dug outs and two of which are railed off. Facilities at the main pitch have recently been improved with the addition of paving slabs laid down one side and a half-built shelter in the corner. This came in handy half way through the second half when the heavens opened. There is no bar on site and on this occassion no refreshments. The game was end to end but neither side could find the final touch in front of goal. Rothwell should have taken the lead in the 40th minute when they were awarded a penalty after a needless tackle from behind but the Rothwell player screwed his shot wide of the post. The second half went in a similiar way to the first. Peterborough then brought on two substitutes who provided more attacking options but Rothwell looked to have weathered the storm until deep into injury time when a crude challenge from behind gave Peterborough a penalty which they duly converted to take the points. |
