TT No.213: Bob Davies - Sat 15th March 2008; United Counties League Prem Div; Yaxley v Long Buckby;       Att: 53; Result: 0-5; Admn: £4; Programme: £1; Tea & chunky kit kat: 90p.

Prior to the evening's ice hockey at Peterborough, I though I might pop into Yaxley FC for a revisit after several years. The club itself is very easy to find. Leave the A1M at Norman Cross turning right towards the village and the A15. At the traffic lights turn right and the immediately right again into Church Road. Follow the the road down passing a large church (hence the road name) and right again at the T junction. First left into Holme Road and left again down a narrow track will give access to the ground. There is plenty of car parking available. The ground itself has only a small covered seating area but is open to elements on the remaining sides. A large hedge might act as a wind brake in certain conditions on the far side. This is a friendly club and I had no difficulty in obtaining the teams from the officials. Team changes were also read out over the tannoy prior to kick off.

In the match itself Yaxley were taken apart by one of the most positive performances I've seen from an away side this season. John Feltham in the Yaxley goal must have thought it must be his day as he produced a penalty save from Richard Bunting after just three minutes. It did not deter the visitors’ onslaught and only a couple of super saves from Feltham kept the home side in the game at the break. Another penalty 10 minutes after the break struck home by Darren Harman put the visitors out of sight with two further goals from Holmes and Lynch making it five with twenty minutes still to go. No further goals but Yaxley kept their heads up until the end in trying to erode Long Buckby's advantage without avail.

There were some plans on the wall for what I assume is a new clubhouse and dressing room complex but no signs as yet when this work will begin.

Programme 32 pages (15 pages ads) well printed and plenty of the usual stats to keep me occupied. Programme 32 pages (15 pages ads) well printed and plenty of the usual stats to keep me occupied.
