TT No.219: Bob Davies - Sat March 29th 2008; Peterborough Northern Star (0) 1, Rushden & Higham Utd (0) 0; Eagle Bitter United Counties League Division 1 Admn: £2.50 (incl prog); Att: 40 est; Tea: 50p.

Fairly easy ground to find from the A1. Turn onto
A1139 Fletton Parkway following signs for A47 Wisbech. Exit at junction 7 (near Perkins Engines Site & Sainsbury's). At top of the slip road turn left into Eastfield Road, and then turn right at the traffic lights into Newark Avenue taking the first right in to Eastern Avenue. Take second left into Chestnut Avenue and the club is on the right behind steel palisada fencing. I parked outside on the road as it did look a bit cramped inside the complex. There was somebody at the gate early taking admission with a plentiful amount of programmes.

There are three pitches on the site and PNS use the middle one, post and railed with a small covered standing area near the dressing room complex.

The game itself kept the interest up throughout despite the strong wind not making it to easy for many of the players. PNS are third from top and R & H United occupy third from bottom but the goals predicted did not materialise as the game ebbed and flowed between the penalty areas. An early second half goal by Ryan Francis proved to be the winner. The home side couldn't add to their tally in the second half despite territorial advantage. They also spurned the chance of doubling the lead in stoppage time from the penalty spot after a goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by a defender's hand (red card for him) and the goalkeeper made a good save. On the subject of penalties this was the fourth save of the last five penalty kicks I seen!!

A well presented programme with 24 pages (half of adverts) that had all you needed for the game. Worth a visit if you haven't been as yet.

It does look like they will have a floodlit ground next season as the lights from the old St Neots Town ground have been earmarked for installation for next season.

An up to date website had a full report of the game the following morning. For details go to: www.pnsfc.com
