With Martin Hollands now aboard and via the auspices of the Coopers Arms in Crowborough, it was soon time for match number two of this warm May Day Bank Holiday Monday.

I've always thought of Pembury as a really nice place, which of course it is, but I have to say that their football club, found at the end of a narrow track at the foot of Henwoods Mount, isn't.
There is really nothing here, apart from the changing room block, and even on this matchday, with a much bigger crowd than they would ever normally expect, the place is still an iota bland.

With City already clear cut champions, by the distance of a country mile, this was only ever going to be a match to showcase City's wares. And what a start they made, going two up inside the first six minutes, it looked as if double figures were on the cards. I had, hoorah, chosen the correct goal net to stand behind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But give credit to Pembury, who stuck to their task and kept things respectable at half time, even managing to score themselves. 1-3 was the interval tally.
Royston Gough completed his hat trick after the restart, as Canterbury ran out comfortable winners, by the margin of five goals to 2.

The crowd had been swelled by numerous 'hoppers on the promise of a Mick Burt programme, which was indeed a fine eight page effort. Pembury FC, in this their centenary year, may well have to wait another hundred years for another issue, I expect!

After the match, I cut across country on my way home and was back indoors within the hour, to witness Kent CCC, live on SKY TV, thrash Surrey in the Friends Provident Trophy, which pretty well rounded off the day.
